Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between an intensive and an ongoing?

An intensive is your first introduction to Margie’s philosophy and our way of working. Everyone in an intensive is new to the studio. Ongoing classes are designed for students to develop their skills/creation on different scripts and delve more deeply into the philosophy.

Can I jump straight into ongoings?

All adult and teen actors must complete an intensive before taking an ongoing class with us. Kids may sign up for ongoing classes directly.

Does Margie teach all the classes? How do I work with her?

Margie teaches our Master Level classes. Professional working actors, with guest star, recurring, and/or series regular credits may email [email protected] to inquire about Margie’s Master Weekend Intensive. Students progress through the levels of the studio to reach the Master Level, the quickest way to work with Margie is to commit to staying in class and growing.

Classes are long. Can I take breaks?

Intensive classes can be long days, but rest assured you will have a break during class to eat and rest. Our studio has a microwave and two refrigerators, so please feel free to bring food with you!

Can I make up a missed class?

Students enrolled in an intensive are guaranteed up to two make up classes, that must be made up in the following month’s session. You will make up the same class missed, with the same instructor. (i.e. if the third class is missed, the actor may make up the third class in the following month’s session with the same instructor.)

In a make up class, the actor may have to audit depending on class numbers, and is not guaranteed to work. The teacher will allow the student to work only if there is room available for the actor to do so.  Make ups are extended as a courtesy of the studio and are not the responsibility of the studio.

Make up classes are not guaranteed for ongoing classes, and are only permitted at the discretion of the studio team and the instructor.

Do you offer audits?

We do not offer traditional audits at the studio in order to keep our class sizes small, and class environments safe spaces for enrolled students, without outside observers. We hope you understand!

In lieu of an audit, we offer 2 great alternatives- a FREE intro class each week with our Studio Director and Master Level Instructor, Hamish Sturgeon, and a $25 Mini Masterclass Audit with Margie Haber on Zoom. Sign up for either option under the contact page on our website!

I’m struggling financially – can you help?

Payment plans are always available for intensives. We can reserve your spot with a 50% deposit upfront, with the remainder due by the first day of the class. If you are in need of additional financial assistance, please reach out to us, we strive to do what we can to ensure all students can continue their creative journeys at the studio.

When I sign up am I locked into the class?

You are permitted a full refund or class transfer up to TWO WEEKS prior to the class start date. If you request to drop the class within the two week window prior to the class, you will forfeit your deposit payment. Once the class has started, there are no refunds or transfers. Intensives are capped at 12 students, and when reserving a spot in a class you bar another student from signing up.

How big are your class sizes?

Intensives are capped at 12 students, Margie’s Master Weekend is limited to only 8.

Ongoing class sizes vary month to month, but are capped at 16 students.

Do you offer private coaching?

All of our instructors offer private coaching. The rate is $130/hr for currently enrolled students with us, and $180/hr for non-students. Private coaching with Margie is available for $250/hr.

Private coaching is coordinated directly with our instructors, please view the “Private Coaching” tab of our website to reach out.

I want help with a self-tape? How do I schedule?

Our state of the art self tape studio is available 7 days a week, 9:00am – 10:00pm. We offer affordable pricing, MHS trained actors as your readers, and a safe creative space to play. To schedule a time slot please view the “Self Taping” tab of our website. For any inquiries please email [email protected].

Can I get a refund for a class?

You can request a refund for an intensive up to TWO WEEKS prior to the class start date. Refunds are not permitted within the two week window leading up to the class. Once the class has started there are no refunds or transfers.

Refunds and transfers are not permitted after ongoing class blocks have started.

How do I pay for classes?

We are able to accept Card, PayPal and Venmo payments.

For new students, please select the “New Students” option to claim your seat on the intensive page of your choice, this will direct you to a secure checkout, with the option to pay by card or with PayPal. You may call into the studio to pay over the phone with a card as well.

For ongoing classes, continuing students can select the “Continuing Students” option that will direct you to the secure payment page to see all ongoing class schedules.

Do you have parking?

Unfortunately we do not have our own parking lot at the studio, however there is ample free parking available in the residential areas surrounding La Brea Avenue. We recommend arriving early on day one to leave time to find parking. Be sure to check for parking signs and street cleaning times – restrictions may apply.

There are metered parking spots available out front on La Brea, but parking is not allowed between 4pm-7pm daily.

Can we work on our own audition scripts?

Material is provided by our instructors to students before every class, all students work on the same “slice of life” in each class. Actors are not permitted to bring their own material, please inquire about private coaching with your instructor if you would like specialized audition help.

Do you work every class?

Every actor will have the opportunity to get up and work on camera at least once in every single class. Time often allows for students to work multiple times.

Do Kids need to do an intensive?

We do not offer a monthly intensive option for kids, so actors are allowed to start directly in ongoing classes. We offer a kids summer camp for actors ages 10-13 once a year, which serves as a deep dive into our studio’s philosophy and teaching style, which then leads to a smoother transition into ongoing classes after.
