Happy New Year 2017!
It’s hard to believe another year has flown by. They say the older you get the quicker the day goes. Well I can attest to that – my 24 hours is like 24 minutes!
SO, what does the new year mean to me? Gratitude – for my family, for my friends, for my life and for another year to change peoples’ lives.
The Haber Studio is filled with curious actors exploring human beings and courageously diving into themselves to expose their vulnerabilities. It is easy to be an actor – it is difficult to live a complicated life. But isn’t that what brought you to this volatile career? Not for the money, not for the fame, but for the creation of life. I know that is what makes me continue to teach for all these years and what makes me fly all over the world (next week I will be teaching in Hong Kong!)
Margie Haber Studio is successful because I trained teachers who were excited to share my philosophy -relationships guide you, create a life through imagination. The teachers are fully invested in the studio that encourages them to be creative while sharing their talents and exposing their vulnerabilities.
I opened this studio in the 1980s (omg!) never knowing that it would continue to grow for over 30 years! We were the place to come to for auditioning and cold reading – that hasn’t changed. However, we all have evolved and I am a better teacher today and will be even better tomorrow. Many actors have come through these doors of creation and have succeeded beyond their own expectations. Others have become writers, directors, or found a different path. But I hope all of the actors have felt the teachers, the staff and myself care about them. I have always wanted my studio to be a place where actors can be safe yet risk to be seen, to create but not technically, and to bring the best of themselves into the room.
My wish for all of you in this new year of 2017 is to continue to believe in yourself. The way to do that is to enjoy the process. I work privately with so many actors each week who are on series or have booked a film and they are throwing away their need to do well and replacing it with the joy of creation.. Loving the journey of living a life will prevent you from living in the narcissistic world of acting. It doesn’t make a difference if you have one line, one paragraph or 20 pages. The opportunity to experience fully another person is the only goal I wish for you this year. Getting a job – the icing on the cake ……..
